“‘bout time u joined mr. back. c'mon, get with the program!!!!!!”

 The accolades of friends are the highest form of praise and considering that these friends are
great musicians themselves the complement carries even more meaning.

 I first had the privilege of meeting Mike Back in the world of the day job.  I soon learned he was a musician and since I was a former musician we found much in common.

 Mike saw and studied many great artists, he once told me he saw Led Zepplin before they became famous.  All the while he was playing and singing in various bands while being influenced by popular artists, rehearsing and honing his natural musical talent.

It is one thing to be technically able to duplicate the notes on a page or mimic a song.  It is quiet another thing to capture the emotion of the music as the writer intended or to add your own little bit that adds greatness to a tune.  I invite you to go to the Listen page of this Web Site and hear Black is Black.  Here Mike captures all the intended nuance of this classic, he hits high notes with an ease that one doesn’t notice this is technically difficult.  That’s the mark of a professional well schooled at his craft.

Mike's talent is aptly complemented by Monica Taft, the other half of the Mike Back Duo, the Listen page contains Harden My Heart where Monica covers this Quarterflash hit with such empathy that you would think she lived this tale and wrote this song. 

Smooth Operator, the Sade classic, provides yet another example of the variety of styles that Monica uses to suffuse her audience.

 The sum of this talent is the smile, Mike and Monica love the music and performance because it makes people smile.

 I truly believe that Mike Back could play in a much larger area to much larger venues but that would be counter to Mike’s way.  He loves the Merrimack Valley area because that’s where his friends are.  When you go to a Mike Back performance you are with friends who love Mike and his music.  They want to have a good time with their friends and you know right away that you are among friends with lots of smiles, dancing and revelry.
